Mrs. Jean E. Muse

October 31, 1931 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Mrs. Jean E. Muse, 85, of Cave Spring, died Friday afternoon, June 9, 2017, at her residence following an extended illness.

The former Jean Elizabeth Thompson, Mrs. Muse was born in Whitfield County, the daughter of the late Henry Lee Thompson and the late Lona Bell Sartin. Although she was mainly a homemaker, Mrs. Muse had worked for the Krystal Company, Zartic and Hillard Farms. Mrs. Muse was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

Mrs. Muse was married to Clarence Everett Shelton in 1947, and was preceded in death by him in Feb. 1954. She was married to John W. Muse in June of 1956, and preceded in death by him in August of 2009.

Besides her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Stephen Jerome Muse and Wendell Terrence Muse; by her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Faye Shelton Pitts; by three brothers, Wayne Thompson, David Thompson, and Robert Thompson, and by 2 grandchildren.

Mrs. Muse is survived by four sons, Ronald Shelton and his wife Virginia of Cave Spring, Jeff Shelton and his wife Marsha of Armuchee, John W. Muse, Jr. of Silver Creek, and Richard Muse and his wife Betty of Cave Spring. 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, three brothers, H. L. Thompson, Roger Dale Thompson, and Merle Thompson, all of Chatsworth, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Muse were held Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Earl Partain, Jr. and Rev. Dale Byars officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the Mountain View Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
