Mr. Charles Howell Obituary

Mr. Charles Howell, 86, of Cave Spring, died Monday evening, October 16, 2023 at his home following a brief illness.

Aubrey Charles Howell was born October 22, 1936 in Mize, Mississippi, a son of the late Horace Bethel Howell and the late Ruby Wilson Sullivan. Mr. Howell was a graduate of the Mize High School where he met, and later married, his wife, the former Willie Ree Allen. They were married on December 22, 1954 and Mr. Howell was preceded in death by her on January 24, 2018 after 63 years of marriage.

Mr. Howell, known for his odd sense of humor, was a natural born salesman, and rose quickly through the ranks of the Miracle Maid Cookware to become one of their top producers. After Mrs. Howell’s graduation from the University of Mississippi Medical College in 1984, they moved to Rome and made their home in Cave Spring. Mr. Howell was an entrepreneur and was involved in a variety of businesses, investments and developments. He started the Cedar Creek R.V. Park and build the Lodge and Chalets in Cave Spring not only to rent out, but to host family reunions twice a year. A man of strong faith, Mr. Howell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring for almost 40 years and was involved in many mission and building trips, including after hurricane Katrina. A former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club in Brandon, Mississippi, Mr. Howell was a member of the Mackey Lodge #120 F. & A.M. in Cave Spring.

Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his son, Charles Alan Howell on July 28, 2012; by two brothers, Kendall Howell and Carroll Howell and by a sister, Mrs. Jane Martin.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Howell was fortunate to find love and happiness again with Virginia Lee Brock, who survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Beth Potter and her husband Rich of Cartersville, Mrs. Charla Peoples and her husband Joe of Talking Rock, Mrs. Denise Castro and her husband Lee of Adairsville and Ms. Kay Brock of Armuchee, and fourteen grandchildren, Amy Sprayberry, Al Howell, Haley Adams, Lauren Kennedy, Richie Potter, Van Gunter, Bryant Gunter, Katie Beth Bailey, JoEllen Stephenson, Ashlee Castro, Lee Castro, Natalee Castro, Noel Cannon and Ryan Cannon. Twenty two great-grandchildren, Brittnie Jordan, Sharon Sprayberry, Gabby Howell-Brown, Hannah Cooper, Madelyn Howell, Samuel Howell, Weston Kennedy, Cheyenne Gunter, Zane Gunter, Camryn Sherrill, Leo Castro, Kingston Bailey, Landon Bailey, Kayleb Weathersbee, Valarie Adams, Samson Stephenson (expected in December), Olivia Cannon, Addie Cannon, Rylee Cannon, Lauren Cannon, Scarlette Cannon and Annaleyse Cannon; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren, Brayden Jordon, Blaze Jordon, Bella Jordon, Claire Blackwell, Ayden Cooper, Alivia Cooper, Carter Cooper, Londyn Cooper, Mailee Howell, Maddox Howell, Emerson Howell, Harper Duvall and Ian Duvall; one sister, Mrs. Jean Puckett and one brother, Lidell Howell of Mississippi also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Howell were held Friday morning, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring with Dr. John Connell and Rev. Jarrod Kinsey officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mize, Mississippi at a later date. Mr. Howell’s grandsons served as pallbearers and his grand-daughters served as an honorary escort.

The family received friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
