Mr. Duel Ray Mitchell, 76, of Cave Spring, formerly of Aragon, died Thursday afternoon, December 26, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Rockmart, Georgia June 12, 1943, a son of the late Sam Mitchell and the late Lillian Leach Mitchell. He was a graduate of the Rockmart High School, and was an auto mechanic, having been associated with Volkswagen dealerships. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Aragon Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Aragon City Council where he also served as Mayor Pro Tem.
Mr. Mitchell was married to the former Pattie Diane Formby June 11, 1966, and was preceded in death by her June 30, 2018. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Floy Hayes.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Hope Hicks and her husband Jim of Alexandria, Alabama, and Ms. Kelli Mitchell of Cave Spring; by six grandchildren, Chrystal Purdy, Kathleen Connors, Theresa Sanford, Stephanie Trudell, Andrea Trudell, and Stephen Trudell; and by six great-grandchildren, Izzy Purdy, Neal Purdy, II, Ryder Purdy, Sophia Connors, Jonathan Connors, and Erin Trudell. Two sisters, Mrs. Janelle Longshore of Rockmart, and Mrs. Faye Blackmon of Clem, Georgia, and one brother, Sammy Mitchell of Dallas also survive.
Memorial services for Mr. Mitchell will be held Monday, December 30, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Aragon Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.
