Mrs. Estelle Norton Obituary

Mrs. Estelle Norton, 87, of Rome, and formerly of Cave Spring, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in a Rome hospital following a brief illness.

The former Barbara Estelle Rosier, Mrs. Norton was born in Miami, Florida, September 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Walter Charles Smith Rosier and the late Dolfie Belle Purvis Rosier . A 1950 graduate of the Miami High School, she met her husband, Cave Spring native Howard Norton, a young Marine stationed in Miami, and they were married June 30, 1950. After his military service, they moved to Marietta, and Mrs. Norton later attended and received an Associates Degree from the Beulah Heights Bible College in Atlanta, attended the Antioch Bible College, and also attended the Marietta Vocational/Technical School of Cosmetology. Very active in church for most of her life, she taught Sunday school classes at Antioch Baptist in Marietta and at the Mt. Peron Church of God. Mrs. Norton lived in the Marietta area for a number of years, moving to Cave Spring about 25 years ago, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband May 22, 2010, and by two brothers, Rev. Walter Charles Smith Rosier, Jr., and James Richard Rosier.

Mrs. Norton is survived by two sons, Mike Norton and his wife Terri of Tampa, Florida, and Rick Norton of Rome; and by her daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hodnett and her husband Mark of Pine Mountain. Five grandchildren, eight great-grand-children and one brother Robert Ray Rosier also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Norton were held Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Dr. Alan Hix officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the Rehoboth Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
