Mrs. Lou Norton

Mrs. Lou Winnie Norton, 98, of Cave Spring, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 6, 2017, in a Rome care facility following an extended illness.

Mrs. Norton was born in Floyd County May 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Arthur Owens and the late Carrie York Owens. Mrs. Norton was married to Julian Norton on December 28, 1940, and was preceded in death by him March 21, 1991. Mrs. Norton was a homemaker and one of the best moms that could be asked for and was a member of the East Rome Baptist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Terry, Mrs. Ruth Brooks, Mrs. Kate Wilson, and Mrs. Katherine Pledger; by a brother, Charlie Owens, and by her step son, Howard Norton.

Mrs. Norton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Glenda Wheeler and her husband Jack of Cave Spring, and Mrs. Sue Lehman and her husband Jerry of Rome and by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Estelle Norton of Pine Mountain, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Brent Wheeler (Russ Franklin) Scott Johnson (Tina), Kim Martin and Tina Mixon; three step grand-children, Mike Norton, Rick Norton, and Mary Ann Hodnett, and three great-grandchildren, Ben Martin (Katie), Josh Johnson and Anna Johnson also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Norton were held Friday afternoon, June 9, 2017, at 3:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Ken Hinkley officiating. Mrs. Judy Mackey of Blue Ridge was the soloist. Private interment followed in the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers included Ben Martin, Joshua Johnson, Brent Wheeler, Russ Franklin, Craig Hulsey and Phil Wheeler.

The family received friends at the funeral home Friday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
