Dr. Jane Wentworth, 95, of Rome, died Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2022 in a Rome nursing facility following an illness of several months.
Dr. Wentworth was born in Pensacola, Florida on May 25, 1927, the daughter of the late Theodore Thomas Wentworth and the late Rosabel Howington Wentworth.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. Wentworth served in Japan after WW II. She earned a PhD in Food and Nutrition, and taught food and nutrition at Virginia Tech for 18 years prior to her retirement in 1990. An avid conservationist and gardener, she had made home on a mountain near West Virginia with her longtime companion, Hilda Dailey, prior to moving to Rome.
Dr. Wentworth was a member of the Cave Spring United Methodist Church, and she had visited Haiti a number of times as a volunteer for the United Methodist Committee on Relief helping in a rural health clinic there.
Survivors include a niece, Sara, and three nephews Chris, Dan and Ben.
In keeping with her wishes, Dr. Wentworth was cremated and memorial services will be announced at a later date.
