Mr. Carl Joe Gilmore, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Carl Joe (Joey) Gilmore, Jr. 58, of Cave Spring and Cedartown, died Thursday morning, September 16, 2021 in a Rome hospital.

Mr. Gilmore was born in Rome June 30, 1963, and was the son of the late Carl Joe Gilmore, Sr. and the late Sharon Faye Waits Gilmore. He was a graduate of Cave Spring High School and received a degree in mechanical engineering from the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering in Marietta. Mr. Gilmore was employed by the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 72 in Atlanta. Joey was an avid fan of Alabama (Roll Tide) football and NASCAR (Chase Elliott #9) racing. He also enjoyed going to Daytona each year, a family tradition. Mr. Gilmore was a longtime member of the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mr. Gilmore was preceded in death by his mother on January 31, 2016, by his father on September 7, 2021, and by a daughter, Leanna Gilmore on February 13, 2017.

Survivors include his wife, Venita Lynn South Gilmore, to whom he was married August 9, 1996; his children,  Lauren Nicole Gilmore (Scotty Brown),  Haley McCown and Jory (Jordan) McCown; and two grandchildren, Walker McCown and Maggeigh McCown. His fur babies, Freya, Horus, Bellatrix, Azrael, George, Logan, Levi and Leo also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Gilmore were held Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Lagare Price officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jory McCown, Timmy Couey, Jimmy Lowery, Allen Couey, Allen Stephens, Zac Ferguson, Gary Conway, A. J. Stephens, Thomas Payne, Shane Brand and Scotty Brown. Walker McCown served as an honorary pallbearer.

The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
