Jim H. Whitworth
“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil. 1:21)
Born August 6, 1933 in Pennington Gap, Virginia, Jimmy Harold Whitworth, 88, of Cave Spring passed away August 2, 2022.
According to his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no formal funeral service. At a later date, the family will have a private memorial service.
Raised in a Christian home by loving parents, the late P. J. “Jack” and Elizabeth P. (Betty) Whitworth, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dean Whitworth.
Mr. Whitworth is survived by his wife, Shirley, to whom he was married for 65 years. Other survivors include his daughter, Keri Shiver (Lee): his son, Eric Whitworth (Sonia); his grandchildren: Katie (David), Aimee, and Charlie (Chloe), and his great-grandson, Max; his brother, Gary Whitworth (Barbara), and Randy Meeks, a faithful friend and the father of his three grandchildren and a niece, Claire Helm.
“For me to live is Christ” meant to him service to others and he took great pride in seeing those he served become successful, especially his beloved Deaf students. Like them, he could hear with his heart and speak with his hands.
The final request he made was for those who might want to honor his memory, in lieu of flowers, be a blessing to others; perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone.
The family appreciates the love and the care provided by the Cave Spring Community, by the Pruitt Hospice staff, and by John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Funeral Home. John House’s Cave Spring Chapel
