Mrs. Dana Roy Gerald, 78, of Rome, died Wednesday afternoon, October 20, 2021, in a Rome hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Gerald was born in Anniston, Alabama on December 21, 1942, a daughter of the late William Roy Neal and the late Elsie Louise Brooks Neal. Although she had worked outside the home, Mrs. Gerald was primarily a home maker. She was of the Baptist faith, and attended Providence Baptist Church, where her husband had served as a Deacon.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gerald in 2000. She was also preceded by a son, Thomas Darrin Hunter in 1987; by a daughter, Melda Rose Hunter in 1987; and by three sisters, Mrs. Louise Cook, Mrs. Iris Rhodes, and Mrs. Norma Clemmons.
Mrs. Gerald is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Kelly (Brad) Collins of Rome; by two granddaughters, Shelby Paige Collins and Rebecca Clayton, and by two great-grandchildren, Jazmine Clayton and Jace Collins. Two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Wood of Cave Spring, and Mrs. Nina Terry of Fort Payne and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gerald were held Saturday afternoon, October 23, 2021, at 4:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Killinger officiating. Interment followed in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers included Corey Harrell, Michael Collins, Shannon Willets, Rubin Hunter, and Eddie Mastis.
The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
