George Wallace Kemp, Sr.

Mr. George Wallace Kemp, 86, of Cave Spring, died Thursday morning, Septemeber 1, 2016 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Kemp was born in Bowdon, Georgia on December 25, 1929, a son of the late Robert Edgar Kemp and the late Dana Lovvorn Kemp.  Mr. Kemp attended Berry College prior to serving as a tank commander in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.  After his service to his country, Mr. Kemp finished his degree at Statesboro Teachers College where he met this future wife.  Mr. Kemp taught Industrial Arts in Bassett, Virginia, served as principal at an elementary school in LaGrange, taught at Coosa Valley Tech, and served as maintenance director for the Rome City Schools.  Mr. Kemp finished his teaching career and retired from the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring.  A devoted husband and father, Mr. Kemp also built and remodeled houses until the age of 85, and was a gifted furniture maker.  Always putting his family and others ahead of himself, Mr. Kemp was a Godly man and was a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church.  Besides his parents, Mr. Kemp was preceded in death by four brothers, Aaron Kemp, James Kemp, Hascal Kemp and Troy Kemp, and by two sisters, Mrs. Ila McCloud and Mrs. Charlotte Nuckolls.  Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Edna Faye Morgan, to whom he was married August 21, 1955; by one son, George Wallace Kemp, Jr. and his wife Dawn, and by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kemp Wade and her husband Buster, and Mrs. Kathleen Kemp Jester and her husband Henry.  Four grandchildren, David Jester, Heather Jester Burgess and her husband Tony, Mark Wade, and Candy Wade; two great grandsons, Wesley Wade and Jeremy Wade; one great-grandson, Colton Wade, and one sister, Mrs. Jerolene Williams also survive.  Funeral services for Mr. Kemp were held Sunday afternoon September 4. 2016 at 5:00 P.M. at the Rehoboth Baptist Church with Rev John Fleming and Dr. David McKenzie officiating.  His daughter in law, Dr. Dawn Kemp provided special music.  Interment followed in the Rehoboth Community Cemetery with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion providing Military Honors.  Pallbearers included Buster Wade, Henry Jester, David Jester, Tony Burgess, Jimmy Kemp, Michael Dempsey, and Steve Kemp.  An honorary escort included H. J. Kemp, Frank Osborne, Lester Tierce, Charles Howell, Jerry Don Dempsey, and Jim Dunn.  The family received friends at the church Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rehoboth Baptist Church, 6 Rehoboth Road, Cave Spring, Ga. 30124.  Mr. Kemp’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Kent Dyer, Redmond Regional Rehab, Amiee Crider, the Cave Spring Manor, and the Gentiva Hospice.
